Dear MSCA members,
H1170, the bill to make sabbatical leaves for state college faculty and librarians consistent with those of faculty at other Massachusetts public higher education institutions, was reported out favorably (unanimously) by the Joint Committee on Higher Education today. The bill has been referred to House Committee on Ways and Means. We will continue to advocate for swift passage of the bill. I would like to thank Senate Chairman Anthony Galluccio and House Chairman David Torrisi, as well as all members of the committee, for their swift and favorable action on this bill.
I would also like to thank MSCA Vice President Amy Everitt for testifying in favor of the bill on September 29th in my absence, and Fred Clark, Executive Officer of the State College Council of President for his testimony on behalf of the presidents in favor of the bill and his work leading up to this vote.
I will continue to work with Fred on passage of H1170 and be in touch should we need members to contact their senators and/or representatives.
C. J. O'Donnell MSCA President
